To get to the trailhead: from the Phoenix area, take HWY-87 North toward Payson. Once in Payson, take HWY-260 East towards Heber. After about 30 miles, turn left onto signed FR300 (also known as the Rim Road). Take this road 12 miles, following the signs for Bear Canyon lake. The road starts out paved, but turns to well graded dirt. After 12 miles, turn right at the signed intersection with FR89. After two miles on this road, turn right onto signed FR89A. This road takes you through a campground and down to the lake parking (stay left at the final fork). You'll reach the parking area after one more mile of driving. There is a restroom here but no drinking water.

Take the HWY-260 (General Crook Highway) East for about six miles and turn left (North) onto FR618 (The sign refers to Bull Pen Ranch).

TO GET TO BULL PEN RANCH: Take FR618 for 2.2 mile and turn right on FR215 (Sign to Bull Pen Ranch). FR215 ends at the trailhead, which is 3.2 miles away. High clearance vehicles are recommended.

TO GET TO BLODGETT BASIN TRAIL: Take FR618 for 3.2 miles and turn right on FR214. Follow FR214 for 5 miles to the Blodgett basin trail turnoff. The road to the trailhead requires high clearance vehicles. After about 0.6 miles, the trailhead is marked by a group of Cairns (watch the road to your left and you will see it). The trailhead isn't too far from FR214, so if you want to hike from the road, that's OK too.

From the Phoenix area, take HWY 87 North towards Payson. Once in Payson, take HWY 260 east toward Kohl's Ranch, AZ. Once you near mile marker 271, you have several parking choices.
, You can turn right on the unmarked road at mile 269.9 and park on the side of the road.
, Between mile markers 271 and 272 (at mile 271.3), there is an unmarked informal parking area on the right. There is a break in the guard rail that provides a parking location. The crown of the side of the road is such that you'll probably want a high clearance vehicle if you decide to park here. The trail has been marked with a pink ribbon by hikers, but there's no guarantee how long this will last.
, East of the other two parking areas and east of the boy scout camp (private) is the signed road for Christopher Creek campground. Turn right here and park at the day use area ($6 self pay fee).

From the Phoenix area, take HWY 87 North towards Payson. Once in Payson, take HWY 260 east toward the town of Christopher Creek, AZ (about 22 miles from Payson). The town is a little off the HWY-260, so follow the signs for the turn off. Once in the town of Christopher Creek, turn left on the signed FR 284. Take this dirt road (high clearance vehicle needed) about 1.5 miles to the well signed parking area. There is a pit toilet at the trailhead. ]]></c:value>

To get to the trailhead: from the Phoenix area, take HWY-87 North toward Payson. Stay on HWY -87 as you go through the town of Pine and in another 3 miles, you reach the town of Strawberry. Turn left (West) onto the only intersection in the town (FR708). This road starts paved, then after 3.4 miles turns into good condition graded dirt. The Fossil Creek trailhead is 4.7 miles from HWY-87. Turn right at the sign for the Fossil Creek trailhead. Drive this good dirt road another 0.25 miles to the trailhead. There are restrooms at the trailhead, but no water. Please note, FR708 is now closed about 0.5 miles further along the road, so there is no longer any vehicular access by this route to the Flume trail to Fossil Springs. ]]></c:value>

To get to the trailhead: from the Phoenix area, take HWY-87 North toward Payson. Go through the towns of Payson, Pine, and Strawberry while staying on HWY-87. About three miles past Strawberry is the junction of HWY-260 and HWY-87. Turn left onto HWY-260. After about 3.1 miles, turn right onto FR144 (just past mile marker 249). Drive 1.8 miles on FR144 to FR149. Turn left on FR149 and go 1.2 miles to FR142. Turn right on FR142 (it is a Y-intersection) and follow FR142 1 mile to FR142E. Make a left onto FR142E and follow it 2.7 miles to it's end and the start of our hike. The dirt roads are in pretty good shape. Although a high clearance vehicle is recommended, it probably isn't required.

From the Phoenix area, take HWY 87 North towards Payson. Once in Payson, take HWY 260 east toward Kohl's Ranch, AZ. The left turn for the trailhead is a not so well marked road just after Kohl's Ranch (the sign is for the Tonto Creek Campground). Turn left here and take the road about 0.5 miles until you reach the Horton Picnic area. Park in the signed parking area if you can, otherwise park in one of the clearings along side the road. The trailhead starts at the camping area on the hill across the bridge from the parking area.
