quick hike to a well known landmark outside Sedona
Sedona has recently instituted a "Red Rock Pass", which is a fancy way of saying you need to pay to play. As of April, 2013, the fee is $5 per day per vehicle. There are plenty of places in and around Sedona to pay this fee and get the receipt, which you need to put on your vehicle dash to keep from being towed.
This is a quick hike to the top of Snoopy Rock and a good view of Sedona. Snoopy rock is not visible from the trailhead, so you need to start walking. At the first signed trail junction (JCT on the map), there are several options. If you go left, eventually you will reach Schnebly Hill road. If you go right, you will eventually reach the Broken Arrow trailhead. Instead, go straight onto the faint trail ahead of you. See the mountains to your left? See if you can pick out Snoopy towards the left end of the cliffs. There are lots of trails here. It isn't necessary to try to find a particular trail, but head straight to him. Use your route finding skills here. It's not a difficult climb. Eventually, you'll reach Snoopy and great views of the Sedona area.
After you're warmed up from this hike, you will probably want to try one of the other hikes in the Sedona area.
